For you if

  • You loved Persona 5 Royal and want a fantasy reskin with refined turn-based combat
  • You're OK investing 60-80 hours into a single JRPG with calendar-based time management
  • You enjoy class systems — Metaphor has 46 Archetypes across 14 lineages and Royal endgame trees

Not for you if

  • You hate turn-based combat and skip JRPGs entirely
  • You bounced off Persona 5's calendar pressure and missing-deadline anxiety
  • You want shorter RPGs — Metaphor is 60-80 hours main, 100-150 for 100%
What players love

The archetype system's flexible team-building and challenging turn-based combat are the loops 100-hour fans keep returning to.

What frustrates them

Late-game grinding for types and abilities, alongside pacing that falls apart after a strong start, is the wall many long-time players hit.

How is Metaphor: ReFantazio different from Persona 5?

Metaphor refines the Persona formula rather than reinvents it. You still get the calendar-driven social-sim/dungeon split, but combat now mixes real-time exploration kills with turn-based encounters — exploit a weakness or land a critical and you spend a half-turn instead of a full one. Each party member uses a swappable Archetype (class) instead of a single Persona, and the high-fantasy setting lets it skip Persona's modern-Tokyo aesthetic without losing the social-link DNA.

How long does it take to beat Metaphor: ReFantazio?

Main story takes about 60-80 hours on a normal playthrough. Storyteller difficulty rushers can finish in 50 hours by skipping cutscenes and side content. Full 100% completion (every follower maxed, every Gold Beetle, every quest, the Platinum trophy) lands at 100-150 hours depending on difficulty. The final playable day is 10/24 in-game, with at least 20 spare days at the end if you've planned well.

What are the best archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio?

The 7 Royal Archetypes are the strongest endgame tier, unlocked by reaching Bond Rank 8 with each main party member. Prince is consensus number one — party-wide buffs plus a 9,999-damage secret skill. Elemental Master gets multi-weakness spell coverage and Magic Link (halves Synthesis MP cost). Dragoon attacks from the back row with elemental affinities. For mid-game, Royal Knight tanks well, Masked Dancer covers versatility, and Cleric/Oracle handle support — 46 total archetypes across 14 lineages.

How do you level up Royal Virtues in Metaphor: ReFantazio?

Five Royal Virtues — Courage, Wisdom, Eloquence, Imagination, Tolerance — gate follower bond ranks and certain quests. Each follower has specific virtue thresholds (e.g. Brigitta needs Wisdom 2 to start, Courage 3 to advance; Maria needs Tolerance 2; Heismay needs Eloquence 2 for rank 2). Read books on the runner during travel for guaranteed virtue gains, and prioritize side quests with virtue boosts on the rewards. Stack book-reading on Idlesday for shop discounts plus virtue grind.

How does the calendar system work in Metaphor: ReFantazio?

The calendar covers June through October, 5 days per week and 30 days per month. Each day splits into Afternoon and Evening segments — most activities take one segment (white clock), but dungeons consume the whole day (red clock). Idlesday weekly is the shop-discount day; restock during it. Stack dungeon completions in single days when possible. Track main and side quest deadlines on the calendar. The final playable day is 10/24.
