Monster Hunter Wilds
Stash a second weapon on your Seikret to swap mid-hunt, batter one body part until a wound opens, then tear it apart in Focus Mode and wear what you carve.
Seamless zone-to-zone hunting and the Seikret beat World's moment-to-moment — but a thin roster and AMD crashes mean you should wait for a sale.
For you if
- You're chasing World's loop but want seamless zone-to-zone hunting without loading screens.
- You loved Rise's wirebug mobility and want a mount that makes every chase feel fluid.
- You're okay with a base game that needs a few patches and a $40 sale price to feel complete.
Not for you if
- You're on AMD and expect stable frame rates — crashes and stutters persist despite patches.
- You want a roster as varied as World's launch — Wilds' lineup is thinner.
- You value story pacing — the early hand-holding drags before the hunts open up.
Combat fluidity and the Seikret's seamless traversal keep 500-hour fans hooked, even as they lament the shallow roster.
PC crashes and AMD-specific instability are the persistent wall — long-time players report it spoils otherwise great hunts.

What critics say
- 100/100The Guardian
You could pick Wilds up as a newcomer and have a tremendous time playing through the story. You could stop there and it would still be worth the price of admission. But I will be playing it for a long time yet.
- 100/100DualShockers
Largely focusing on streamlining and making the overall experience more accessible, without removing the core principles that veteran hunters have come to know and love, Monster Hunter Wilds is a game that should be experienced by everyone.
- 85/100Softpedia
Wilds refines and enhances the existing Monster Hunter experience rather than redefining it. Those who embrace the franchise’s signature challenge and depth will find that this game stands as another solid and satisfying entry.
Before You Play
Refreshed monthlyIs Monster Hunter Wilds a good starting point if you've never played the series?
Capcom designed it as the series' entry point. The official starter guide calls it "the most approachable entry in the series yet," pairing newcomer-facing features with an extensive suite of accessibility options, and ships a twelve-tip primer for players taking their first steps into the Forbidden Lands.
Is Monster Hunter Wilds' PC performance still bad?
Largely fixed, roughly eleven months after launch. Capcom's January 2026 patch reworked Steam-specific CPU and GPU processing — less shader warming, adjusted texture streaming, a new CPU tab in Options — and February's Ver.1.041 added model level-of-detail plus spawn and render optimisation. Results still vary by hardware, and Capcom currently flags AMD Radeon drivers 25.10.2 and above on certain cards.
Which weapon should you start with in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Sword and Shield is the consensus first pick — "the perfect starter weapon for any first-time player," with fast combos, mobility and the ability to guard. Great Sword, Lance, Dual Blades and the Light Bowgun form the agreed second tier, each teaching one habit: hit-and-run, blocking, aggression, distance. Leave Charge Blade, Switch Axe, Insect Glaive and Gunlance for later — their two-mode gauges are what new hunters bounce off.

What is there to do after the credits in Monster Hunter Wilds?
A Hunter-Rank-gated grind ladder. Past HR 100, Capcom's fourth title update added Armor Transcendence — upgrading armour beyond its original limits — alongside Artian weapon crafting from Gogmazios materials, eight-hunter special quests, and Hunting Exercises against tempered 9★ monsters. Arch-tempered fights sit at the top; Arch-tempered Jin Dahaad landed in December 2025 as one of the hardest quests in the game.
Can you play Monster Hunter Wilds solo?
Yes — the whole game is soloable. An SOS Flare fires mid-hunt to call up to three other hunters worldwide, and per Capcom "you can also call NPC Support Hunters to enjoy the fun of a hunting party even when playing singleplayer." Support Hunters join automatically when enough players don't answer, and the Quest Counter lets you force either mode with "Only Other Players" or "Only Support Hunters."
