Last reviewed: May 3, 2026
Released Nov 2024 Singleplayer / Atmospheric / First-Person

Finally fixed since launch — patches 1.5 through 1.8 restored A-Life and tamed the worst stutters that wrecked the November 2024 reception.

For you if

  • You loved Stalker SoC/Clear Sky/Pripyat and want a true sequel with modern open-world tech
  • You enjoy survival FPS with anomaly-detection puzzles, hunger management, and weapon decay
  • You're OK doing one full playthrough now and a second pass for the other endings

Not for you if

  • You quit games at the first crash — even patched Stalker 2 still hitches occasionally
  • You expect Far Cry-tier polish — the Zone is still rough around the edges
  • You hate looking up Steam threads to figure out which patch broke your save
What players love

The atmospheric shooter loop and tight gunplay are what keep players engaged for hundreds of hours.

What frustrates them

Performance degradation with updates, including stuttering and freezing, frustrates long-time players.

Underneath the technical problems that plague STALKER 2 is a unique greatness that emerges as a refreshingly brutal shooter.
  2. 7/10GameSpot
Its propensity for creating emergent moments in a deadly world makes this trip back to the Zone fraught and compelling.

Refreshed monthly
Has Stalker 2 been fixed by 2026 patches?

Mostly yes. Patch 1.2 (early 2025) shipped 1,700 fixes plus initial A-Life restoration. Patch 1.5 brought A-Life 'more or less back' alongside new weapons, anomalies, and the ability to loot mutant parts. Patches 1.7 and 1.8 (late 2025-early 2026) cleaned up persistent NPC AI and performance — the long-session memory leak in Rostock is gone, A-Life feels alive again, and stuttering on mid-range PCs is rare. Crashes are rare but not extinct.

What are the best weapons in Stalker 2 early game?

For the first 5-10 hours, the AKM-74S, Viper-5, and TOZ-34 carry you. The AKM-74S is the best generalist (compatible with the assault-rifle suppressor for stealth and the Rubber Coating mod at 350 coupons that drops recoil 10%). The Viper-5 fills the SMG slot. Add the GP-25 grenade launcher (locked safe in Cement Factory's Intercom Tower, code 030794) for under-barrel grenade utility from mid-game on.

How do you farm artifacts in Stalker 2?

Equip a Bear Detector (or upgrade to Otklyk/Medved with 50m radius, Gilka/Veles with 100m). Walk into anomaly fields and watch the green pip indicator — face the artifact direction, walk toward it, beep frequency rises as you close. Artifacts respawn after every Emission storm, so build a route through Cordon, Lesser Zone, Burnt Forest hitting Nuclear Waste Burial, Old Mill, Deaf Meadow, and Pol Depot. Quest-tagged artifacts don't respawn.

How many endings does Stalker 2 have?

Stalker 2 has four main endings — Ward (destroy the Zone), Spark/Scar (enter pod for the Shining), Strelok (take command of Monolith forces and seal the Zone), and Kaimanov (Strelok's path with Dr. Kaymanov kept alive). Three major choices in the missions Subtle Matter, Dangerous Liaisons, and The Last Wish drive the outcome. There's no New Game Plus, so save-scumming or full replays are the only way to see all four.

What are the best Stalker 2 mods on Nexus?

For 2026 the consensus essentials are: Stalker Unlimited (full overhaul of economy, ballistics, anomalies, and loot), Ultra Plus (lighting and visual overhaul with Ultra+ settings), Anti-Stutter Mod (engine.ini stutter fix), and A-Life Extended (deeper NPC zone simulation). For combat realism try Better Ballistics or Desolation, which adds 200+ new items and a hardcore medical system. All live on the Stalker 2 Nexus Mods page.
