Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave

Four Flame Lord routes over one year, each with its own systems — Cai tames mounts, Theodora fields Battalions — then Part Three merges your unit versions.

Fortune's Weave earns its 100-plus hours, but skip it unless you can stomach the weekly admin — meals, gifts, temple prayers — wrapped around its four Part One routes.

8.9 /10
Strong

For you if

  • You have the hours: your first Part One route runs around 35, all four run roughly 100, and full runs came in at 121-161.
  • Routes that actually play differently appeal — Cai farms and tames mounts, Theodora recruits Battalions, Dietrich hunts down foes in dungeons to duel.
  • Part Three's convergence is the payoff: you pick which route's version of a unit joins the endgame, and can fold different versions into one.

Not for you if

  • Pure grid tactics is what you came for — dungeon Clashes drop the grid for one-unit-a-turn battles, and world-map time goes on farming, gathering and side contracts.
  • One save file is a dealbreaker: there are no multiple save slots, so a wrong turn on the world map can autosave before a skirmish and cost you turns.
  • Repetition wears you out — Part Two replays the same maps four times with minor differences (skipping auto-levels that army), and free time runs dry in the last 10-15 hours.

After 121 hours, I was exhausted, but I wouldn't wish away any meaningful portion of that time.

  2. 4/5GamesRadar+
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave has such grand scope and ambition that it might have been the series' high, were it not for its mire of busywork that persists through to the endgame, which doubles down by introducing another kind of grind altogether.

  3. 7/10Gfinity Esports
I spent about twenty minutes running back and forth to plant seeds and manage a farm, stopping halfway through to ask myself why I was playing a farming simulator instead of commanding an army.

The fact that there aren't multiple save files could also frustrate some as well, particularly Fire Emblem die-hards or the purists I mentioned earlier.

Fortune’s Weave is the first Fire Emblem game I’ve played in over a decade where I turned off Classic Mode.

Does Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave's AI offer a real challenge, or does the game lean on multiplayer?

The enemy AI in Fortune's Weave can push back hard on its own: in one dense-forest battle, Giant Bomb's reviewer survived only by hiding weaker units in the woods and routing stronger ones along a hidden path to flank the enemy. No source in this set mentions multiplayer as the difficulty backbone; the challenge comes from outnumbered, overpowering tactical situations and the scale of the campaign, which Pocket Tactics and TechRadar both describe as hundreds of hours of varied strategy.

How steep is the learning curve in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave?

You can undo mistakes with Fortuna's Blessing, and the resource that fuels it replenishes over the course of a battle, so a wrong move or a unit death isn't fatal. The game still has dense, overlapping systems — the build stat is new, and Polygon notes that even with all its tutorials, some trial and error is unavoidable. RPG Site describes it as a dense, complicated game with many overlapping mechanics, so the early hours require patience with a lot of menus.

Does Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave build on the tactical RPG genre or play it safe?

Pocket Tactics calls the scale and scope sweeping, saying it makes Three Houses look like child's play, with core strategy gameplay that is varied and most of the new ideas working. Eurogamer's 20-hour preview cites the scale, complexity, and ambition of the game. TechRadar points to a multi-path narrative, turn-based combat, exploration, and dungeon sections that keep pacing steady.

Can you play Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave in short sessions, or does it require long play sessions?

Expect long sessions: CGMagazine's reviewer was about 40 hours in before finishing just the first character's route, and had only seen a quarter of the game at that point. VGC's hands-on notes that the first part alone packs four individual paths and dozens of hours of activities, while Nintendo Life describes the game as lengthy with plenty of downtime between missions. Each mission and story path is long enough that a single play session will usually need to run for well over an hour.

Does Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave slow down or get tedious in the late game?

Reviews are split. MobileSyrup calls the campaign "frustratingly bloated," saying the core loop is "buried under dozens of hours of tedium," while CogConnected notes "teeny tiny pacing problems" and frustration at the story pulling back "for a few dozen hours." TechRadar disagrees, crediting the dungeon sections with maintaining "excellent pacing throughout" across a world big enough for hundreds of hours. CGMagazine notes the scale directly: roughly 40 hours in, it had only seen about a quarter of the game.
